BeeFef's News

Posted by BeeFef - February 1st, 2024

I release a 4-track EP today! Not sure yet if I'm posting it to Newgrounds, but it's on YouTube, Spotify, Bandcamp, and so on! It's full of instrumental synthy and wavy goodness!

Even if these tracks aren't being uploaded to Newgrounds, I finished another single that should be posted here in the next couple of weeks or so. Glad to be back posting music here again, especially considering the explosion of attention that Pitchblende got, and it was my first upload here in almost 3 years.

Since I haven't uploaded any music in quite a while (except short clips on Instagram) and am barely on NG these days, I wanted to update people on what I've been doing, how I've changed, and how I've been.

First of all, if you look at my music submissions, I haven't posted anything since 2020. This is likely due to both the pandemic and personal/family matters, and how they've affected my physical & mental health (and still are). My ADHD and anxiety seem to have gotten worse over the last couple of years, and it seems to have affected the rate at which I complete and release songs.

Second, I haven't been putting many of my songs on Newgrounds in the past 2.5 years, because of what I explained in this forum post. It wasn't the most well-received post, but maybe I'll upload at least 1 or 2 of those tracks at a lower bitrate, and then provide a link to buy the song in higher-quality audio. Honestly, though, I make so little money from my music anyway, that I don't care that much about it.

And also, I've been going through a bit of a musical metamorphosis. Sometime last year, I started to dive into the world of music that's not tuned to 12-tone equal temperament. Because if you think about it, if you live in a developed part of the world, chances are, you barely hear any music tuned differently. We're missing out on all these different chords, melodies, etc. that you could get by tuning your instruments differently. For example, 46 equally-spaced notes per octave blows 12 per octave out of the water when it comes to tonal variety while actually still retaining potential to sound good, at the cost of having more notes to deal with. So I've been spending less time getting deep into newer song projects, and more time exploring tonality and planning and designing different things to greatly encourage musical change (I still plan on releasing some more tracks in normal tuning, though, because they would be ones that I started a while ago).

So yeah, I might upload some more music to NG starting sometime this year.

So today, my NG account turns 4. It's been a while since I started here, and my music and I have both changed significantly over that time. If you've been following me for a while and you're still listening to my music, thank you. I'm glad that people actually listen and care about the music I turn out. One more year until half a decade!

P.S. and edit 5 or something: I also got a Behringer DeepMind 12 synth. It's this analog synth that has 12 voices and loads of effects. So I'll probably be doing quite a bit of music with it

So yesterday on my birthday, my first EP, awkward human, was released for the world to see. It's 4 songs and a little under 15 minutes total length, but it still took a long time to complete and it's still one of my biggest music releases ever. I'm not releasing it on Newgrounds because I found a way to download any song for free on Newgrounds, even if there's no download button on the page itself, so I don't want to risk having my songs stolen because of poor site security. But I am making this news post to announce the EP here, and here are some links to it below:

Maybe 2 or 3 days ago, I updated my page here. I think I added my Spotify page and I updated the Instagram link (it had my old username in it instead of my current one).

Also updated my profile pic and banner.

I made a song with joze umibe, a music producer and singer from Japan, and it went up on SoundCloud and YouTube on the 24th. I'm probably not uploading this song to Newgrounds because I don't believe Joze has a Newgrounds account, so I might not be able to list her on the sidebar as one of the people who made the song.

However, I am leaving a link to the music video and the page on SoundCloud where there's an option to download the track.

Here is Joze's Instagram and SoundCloud. Go check her out!

See ya!

so today marks 3 years since I signed up for newgrounds. back when i made this account, what i wanted to do was make my own songs for me and others to use in geometry dash (i never did use my own songs tho and i only finished one level. i kinda wonder what the gd community is like now). since then, i've moved away from the app and my music style has also changed quite a bit. it used to be this really cheesy, half-baked digital-sounding stuff, but now i think it sounds more analog and way more professional, although idk if i would call my music professional-sounding just yet.

i was 15 when i created this account, back before i went by tristan bay, so everyone here knows me as "BeeFef." back then, i was almost only posting music and my logos. now i'm 18, and i've developed not only as a producer, but as a person. since about 7th or 8th grade, i've kind of been going through a metamorphosis. it's been a rough, stressful path, but hopefully it won't be too long until it levels out a bit and i can enjoy being the kid that i am/will be mentally. when i was 15, i think people didn't think of me as one of them as much as they do now. i was odd and i feel like people didn't like being around me as much and i made people more nervous than i do now.

well here i am, 32 newgrounds fans and counting. sometimes it makes me wonder how people blow up or get so much exposure than i do. is there some essential thing i'm missing? do i need more friends or people in general supporting me and networking with me? do i actually need to start making money and looking more professional in order to be taken more seriously?

if you get all the way to the end of this, then thank you for reading and caring about this stuff. i probably missed at least one thing i wanted to say in this post, so i might either go back and edit it or do one or more posts adding on to this one.

Usually, what I do for YouTube when I make a song is it's mostly just a still image with the audio. This time I've decided to put in a TON of extra effort into making a full-on animation for it. I'm probably gonna end up posting this to NG too. Hope I can get it out before June!

See you soon

Hey guys! I wanted to kinda celebrate (and on time this time) my two-year anniversary of my Newgrounds account. I've come a long way in more ways than one and I feel like my music is getting better and better. Also, I'm hoping to release an EP sometime this year and see how that does.

Sorry I've been posting so little, I've been ridiculously busy this past month and a half with things like school and working at Safeway. I might come out with something in the next 1 or 2 weeks (I was originally planning it to be in my EP, but who knows), so stay tuned.

Anyway, hope you have a nice day/morning/evening/night/etc. BYEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

Recently, I was criticized by multiple people about my old persona, BeeFef. I'll keep using BeeFef and MusicOfBeeFef for some things, but I've decided on going by Tristan Bay instead.

I might become a supporter soon so I can change my username, but I might stay a supported for more than I need to because I want to.

Hopefully I can get around to releasing more music soon so see you then
